One
of the oldest Phoenix-area facilities in the Grapefruit
League, in the past Phoenix Municipal Stadium was known for
its uncomfortable bleacher seating and minimalist approach to
comfort. As a result, this ballpark got a reputation as a bad
place to watch a baseball game.
But this
reputation changed in 2005,
when
Phoenix Municipal Stadium opened as one of the spiffier ballparks in the city
after undergoing an $8 million remodeling. Some of the renovation items are more
for the comfort of the team and the press corps, but many of them will directly
benefit fans through more comfortable seating and access to amenities like
concessions, a gift shop and access to the ballpark.
Phoenix
Municipal Stadium was the home of the Phoenix Firebirds until 1992, when the
team moved to Scottsdale Stadium.
