The Detroit Tigers will allow fans into Joker Marchant Stadium early for home batting practice -- but fans will be limited to the left-field berm and need to pony up an extra $5.
The Tigers open the gates to Joker Marchant Stadium two hours before game time. That's after the Tigers complete batting practice -- and fans love batting practice.
The solution from the Tigers: allow fans onto the outfield berm for an extra $5. Now, the Tigers could have done what other teams do -- open the doors two-and-a-half hours before game time -- but instead chose to implement a very limited solution for an extra fee. It used to be that spring training was a casual affair with lots of access; every spring, it seems, we lose a little more access and pay a little more for the privilege of watching games in a warm climate.
