We've posted the tentative spring-training schedule for the Seattle Mariners, as the team is set to play the first scheduled game in the Cactus League in 2013.
You can view the schedule here.
Seattle pitchers and catchers will report to spring training Feb. 12 (physicals) and holds its first workout Feb. 13. Position players are scheduled to report Feb. 15 and the first full-squad workout will be held Feb. 16. Due to the World Baseball Classic, some position players may report earlier than the assigned date.
The Mariners will be celebrating their 20th spring training at the Peoria Sports Complex, and their 37th season training in the Valley of the Sun. Last spring the Mariners and Padres agreed to a long-term lease agreement with City of Peoria keeping the Peoria Sports Complex as the team’s spring training and player development home up to 2034. The Cactus League will again feature 15 teams in 2013, and for the third consecutive season all teams will play in the greater Phoenix area.
The Mariners will play 20 games at Peoria Stadium next spring, including two when the Padres are designated the home team (February 23 & March 22). The Mariners and Padres will play the annual charity game on February 22, which benefits over two dozen local causes in the Peoria area.
The 2013 spring opener February 22 vs. the Padres will be the earliest in club history (previous was 2/25/09) and the 34 Cactus League games (does not include one exhibition game) will be second-most in club history (37 in 2009). Due in large part to the World Baseball Classic, the Mariners will have four off days during the spring (March 5, March 11, March 20, March 29).
The Cactus League schedule includes three night games in Peoria, beginning with a game March 15 vs. a World Baseball Classic team from the Asia qualifier. Night games will also be played March 19 vs. the defending World Series champion San Francisco Giants and March 21 vs. the Chicago Cubs.
