Diamondbacks narrow spring-training choices to three

The Arizona Diamondbacks say they've narrowed the choice for a new spring-training faciity to three in the greater Phoenix area, but they're not discussing specifics.

D-Backs chief executive Derrick Hall is letting out a few details, however. Two of the three sites are on tribal lands, which would indicate the Salt River Pima-Maricopa and Fort McDowell Yavapai communities are in the running. And all three proposals are for two-team complexes, which means the team is probably planning on a partnership with the Colorado Rockies. Both teams are looking to move from Tucson once a new complex is completed.

The total cost of a new complex should be around $100 million or so. The Diamondbacks and Rockies will probably will looking to put zero in the facility, with either a municipality or tribe picking up the whole cost.

People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.
